grade 2/3 news
Almost halfway through the week already! How time flies! We've absolutely mastered our latest math concept, so we'll be starting something harder tomorrow! We're still struggling a little with personal vs common nouns, so I'll be emailing a worksheet for homework around 4pm. It doesn't need to be completed until Thursday, but extra practice is always great! And as always, please keep reading with your student as often as possible!
Monday seemed to just zip on by! Yesterday your child should have gotten a note in his or her backpack about that Hillside Mall ... thing. If you didn't get it, send me an email so I can ensure your child gets one today! Other than that, today sees us continuing to work on three-digit numbers, grammar, and visual arts!
Well, we all had a pretty great Friday! We have been making great progress in learning to play our boomwhackers as a class...hopefully we'll be able to get some footage of us playing some music soon! We also had a wonderful afternoon reading with our big buddies over in Mrs Stocks' grade 5/6 class, and after we finished reading, we made pretty adorable little monster bookmarks.
Monday will see us continuing on with our grammar, math, and music, and we even get to go to the library after lunch! There will also be a paper sent home with your child regarding the November 20th shopping event that I think is run through...the PAC? Details to follow on Monday! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! We did it!!! Our first chapel of the year and we were awesome! If you were there, make sure to congratulate your kid and any other grade 2/3 you run into, and if not, please ask them how it went...because it was great!
Tonight we have a new daily challenge, and we're hopefully also learning how to play sudoku, which could be another really fun activity to do at home! Again, we've got some math to be worked on for tomorrow if possible, a handout with some questions circled. We're working on it again today, but it never hurts to review! We're off enjoying a great, sunny day ... we hope you will be able to as well! Good morning everyone! Chapel is today, and it's our turn! We're super pumped to begin our chapel around 8:45. It should run for just over a half hour! Super exciting! The kids yesterday also took home a page of math questions if they were in grade 3 that should be completed by Friday if possible. Some of us needed the extra practice!
Well, another Monday has come and gone! And only 9 more Mondays left till the holidays...how did THAT happen!?
Tomorrow will see us practicing for our chapel on Thursday, modelling 3-digit numbers in math, and finding out what happens to Rudy and Mike as they try to escape Camp Algonkian in Gordon Korman's "I Want To Go Home." And it's also supposed to be quite the storm! Stay safe!
Apologies for the radio silence yesterday...with the bad weather, my tech was down for the day. But we're back in business, at least for now! So while I've got the internet, here are my announcements: - I'm looking for 3 parent volunteers to help us do two rehearsals for our chapel on Thursday as well as helping us with aforementioned chapel on Thursday. We're rehearsing Tuesday at 10:30 and Wednesday at 2. If you can make those times work, we would REALLY appreciate the help! Send me an email if you're in! - Along those lines, if you want to get involved in your child's class this year, I would gladly accept parent volunteers on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 11:10-11:50am. This is when we typically do math and/or grammar work, and we LOVE the special attention of a new grownup in the class! Again, if you're interested, shoot me an email! - We also had a class discussion last week and decided as a group that we needed a "good choices chart" to help focus our behaviour in class. As a class, we can earn up to 2 stickers a day (one for mornings, and one for after lunch) depending on whether or not we were making good choices. After 20 stickers, we decided our reward will be an afternoon movie/pj party! You will, of course, receive plenty of notice and I'll post the movie options before I poll the class so that you can ensure you are comfortable with your child watching it. - Finally...don't be afraid to stay in touch! I absolutely want to partner with you this year for the social, academic, and emotional development of your child, so please don't hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or just to chat! Wow, after a long weekend we are BACK IN BUSINESS! We had SO MUCH to talk to our friends about, and so much to catch everyone up on! It was very exciting, and it sounds like everyone's Thanksgivings were interesting and entertaining!
Today was PICTURE DAY! I believe there are re-takes, though you'll have to contact the office to find out exactly WHEN those are. I also have scholastic catalogues to go home...which I conveniently forgot about till just this minute, so I'll get the kids to put them in their backpacks first thing tomorrow morning!!! Today we started reading Gordon Korman's book, "I want to go home." We all seem to be enjoying listening to it so far! Tomorrow will see us doing some more bulk-counting (i.e. counting of things in large quantities), learning some science, and getting an introduction to our first musical instrument of the year: BOOMWHACKERS!!! I can't wait! Only one more day of school left this week! How time flies when you're having fun!! We had such a packed day today, we really needed just a little longer of a school day! Here's what YOU need to know:
- Tomorrow is the LAST DAY of school this week: professional development is on Thursday and Friday, and then there's Thanksgiving Monday! Don't eat too much turkey! - We've been preparing for chapel on October 20th...and it's gonna be good! We need an adult to lead the special effects department, an adult to head up the stage crew, and an adult to work projection with our projectionist. If any of that interests you, we'll need you for maybe three rehearsals plus the chapel performance at 8:45am on October 20! - We would love some adult volunteers to help us do different-ability math groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11-11:45am. If that interests you, please send me an email! - Hallowe'en is coming up. Our school does not recognize or celebrate it out of respect for the families who choose not to celebrate. I will remind the students next week that it is not a holiday we talk about at school, but if you wanted to remind your child at home as well, that would be wonderful! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! Oops, I had the post ready to go last night and never published it! Well, here are the announcements!
- Show and Tell is TODAY (Tuesday) after lunch - Remember tomorrow is the last day of school this week, as teachers have professional development on Thursday and Friday - School pictures happen in ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! - We have begun working on our presentation for chapel Thursday October 20 and I am looking for a few parent volunteers to help us prepare, and to help us perform it at chapel! Shoot me an email if you're interested! |
